At the final Friday Club before the school summer holidays we hold a “graduation” for kids who will be leaving junior school. As they move up to high school, we present them with a bible as a reminder of the time they have spent with us on a Friday. This year Katrina & Antony were the two recipients.
Last year we were able to secure the services of Paul Wellens, captain of St.Helens rugby league team to make the presentation. This year we wondered how we could get someone even bigger. Well we managed in the shape of Tony Puletua, loose forward for St.Helens. Hailing from New Zealand and standing a towering 6’4” they don’t come much bigger than Tony.
Tony joined Saints in 2008 is a powerhouse in the team and is a Christian. Tony was accompanied by Gaz Tracey, Chaplain to St.Helens rugby team.
We invited parents to stay to watch and participate in our usual mix of songs, dances, games and a short sketch about Noah & the ark. This gave them an opportunity to experience the type of things that go on at club every Friday.
When it came to the games, Tony was happy to take on Katrina & Antony at the “fishing game”. Sadly he did as poorly as Mr Wellens last year and was soundly beaten this time by Katrina. He didn’t fare any better against two of the dads who took up the challenge.
As Club drew to a close, there was just time for Tony to sign dozens of autographs and pose for photographs with all the kids (and a few helpers). It made for a truly unforgettable evening and one that Katrina & Antony will always look back on with fond memories of their time at Friday Club.
Friday Club is for school year 1 to 6 takes place from 6.45pm to 8.15pm during term time. Please see our "Whats On" page for the date of the next Friday Club.
