On Friday 13th July we held our annual Friday Club Graduation. All the children who will be moving on to high school in September were presented with a bible by SVC. For the last couple of years we have been able to secure the services of a Saints player to make the presentation.
This year Friday Club welcomed Saints front rower, Anthony Lafranchi. “Boof”, as he is known, has been capped by Australia and played for his country in the last World Cup.
The evening kicked off with a rousing entrance by the children and watched by parents, families and friends who were invited to stay and participate.
We followed the regular format of lively worship songs with the children displaying plenty of energy as they showed off their dancing skills. While everybody gathered their breath, we settled down to watch a short presentation from Team Galilee. This is a themed topic we have been following in this Olympic year. The story was based around planting seeds in good ground.
Anthony then presented bibles to Zack, Grace, Joshua, Ben, Lauren & Shannon. We then invited Anthony to take part in the “fishing game “challenge. In previous years Paul Wellens and Tony Puletua have both been defeated by our graduates. This year proved no exception as Ben was the victor in the first game.
After several more challenges against children and parents, Anthony posed for photographs with all of the children and quite a few grownups. He happily signed countless autographs and a few Saints shirts as well.
All too soon Friday Club was over for another school year. We look forward to welcoming our six graduates to our teenage youth club, Rock Solid when they start high school in September. We also look forward to seeing the rest of our Friday Club kids, plus the new starters in year one at junior school when Club starts up again after the summer break.
