The 2012 SVC family weekend recently took place and for the second year running we visited the Thornleigh Hotel in Grange over Sands. The hotel is a Christian hotel and is well equipped to host church events. The worship team take plenty of equipment to rig up for a wonderful weekend of praise and worship. Instruments, microphones, speakers lap-top and recording equipment all have to be set up before the weekend kicks off. SVC worship leader Rob Appleton and the team are now well versed in setting up in our home from home.
This year our guest speaker was Jonathan Boyers. Jonathan is from The Peopleís Church, Partington and was accompanied by his wife, Caroline and their young son Mathew. Jonathan read from the book of Samuel and used this as the theme for his talks during the weekend. He encouraged us to trust the Lord and be obedient. He urged us to encourage the young even if it means stepping down from a job we are doing to let them have a chance. Jonathan shared how he had started preaching very badly at the age of 17 but his church encouraged him to keep preaching.
Two sessions on Saturday morning and two on Sunday morning left plenty of time for prayer, worship, fellowship and food. The weather perked up on Saturday afternoon and most of took advantage of the sunshine to stroll along the Esplanade to the shops for a treat then back along the path to take in the stunning views across the bay. By late afternoon, the rains returned and provided us with a spectacular rainbow; A timely reminder of Godís presence and promise.
The evening entertainment was hosted by the younger members of our church family. Zack & Olivia lead us in a game of Bingo followed by a short comedy sketch that they delivered with aplomb and then a quiz that everybody enjoyed.
SVC family events are eagerly awaited and we all enjoy the fellowship and camaraderie that binds us together.
