Sutton Village Church recently held its annual “Graduation” at Friday Club. This is special event to celebrate the children who are in school year 6 and will be moving to high school in September.
It has become a tradition that we engage the services of a Saints player to present the graduates with a bible. This year we were pleased to welcome Jon Wilkin. Jon joined Saints in 2002 and during his illustrious career he has helped them win the treble in 2006 and has represented both England and Great Britain.
The evening began when the children assembled in the hall watched by many parents and relatives who had come along to see what goes on every Friday. Then Jon was introduced to the gathered children. At Friday club we always have some worship songs with energetic dance actions and the children have their favourites.
They were especially delighted that Jon joined in and was even able to keep a sharp eye out for those with impressive dance moves.
We then moved to main event of the evening and Jon presented our group of children leaving Friday Club with bibles on behalf of SVC. We also said a prayer with a very loud AMEN.

As has become customary, the visiting Saints player is challenged to take on the “Fish Game”. Three dads were ready to take on the second rower and weren’t found wanting.
Yet another year goes by and we still haven’t had a Saints player victorious in the reeling stakes. After another challenge against some graduates, Jon was happy to sign numerous autographs and pose for photographs with many young fans that enjoyed a night to remember.
