Our annual family weekend away was again held at the Thornleigh Hotel in Grange over Sands.
We invited this years guest speaker, Andy Hunter from Tyldesley IM Church to review his experience of his first weekend away with Sutton Village Church.
"From the minute we arrived on a rainy Friday night and sat down at a particular table (which would soon form most of the memorable moments of the weekend,) it is safe to say that the SVC Family Weekend 2015 was unforgettable in more ways than one. As outsiders, it can be hard to come into a congregation and to try and be a part rather than just the 'guest speaker and his wife' Right from the outset however, this was not the case as we were welcomed with warm and open arms into a fellowship that clearly loves each other and has a very deep-rooted care for one another. Both Beki and I are absolutely convinced that we needed to be at this weekend away as it helped us to break from the mundacity of routine and to really focus and reprioritise what is important.
The worship was brilliant and had a lovely mixture of joyful sound and yet time for meditative thought and the prayer meetings, despite being early, were both well worth getting up for and complimented the messages that I felt I should bring. The weekend programme had a great blend of free time and organised events and offered time for shopping, conversations and in terms of the quiz - competitive enjoyment.
The four talks I brought looked at who we are in Christ (Made from dust), the cross and what this means (why should we be fussed?), how sometimes life just gets too much (in Him we trust) and the final one being about keeping going, knowing that we don't and won't always get it right (got it sussed?) The importance of such weekends are invaluable in the life of a church and often help to deepen existing relationships as well as offering opportunities to get to know new people. We loved every minute and are beyond thankful for how you welcomed us both."
