About

We are an evangelical fellowship, staffed by volunteers and based in Sutton, a former mining village within the borough of St Helens, Merseyside. Here is our Mission Statement:

  1. To Provide a warm welcoming atmosphere where people can learn about God and worship him.
  2. To follow the examples of Jesus and encourage Christian commitment and discipleship.
  3. To share our faith, love, support and friendship with those within the Church and community.
  4. To always offer prayer support for everyone in need.

Sutton Village Church was first established in 1884 at 107 Herbert Street, Sutton (land now occupied by part of the current car park). Work commenced on the current building in 1891. The building was extended in 1910, and the 2 storey extension housing the Kitchen and Sunday School rooms added in 1962. Finally, the Car Park was added in 1980.

Due to the ongoing maintenance and the costly up-keep of an old building, 1999 saw the completion of an extensive refurbishment programme. Gone were the old wooden pews, replaced with comfortable seating.

2023 saw further work done to improve the internal facilities and today’s church is spacious, airy and flooded with light.
