In mid-June 2026, we held a special service for big kids and little kids, linking the fun and excitement of the World Cup, with the fun and guidance we get from the Bible.
Alongside football-themed games and activities, we reflected on four important things we can learn from God’s book. Plenty of people think the Bible is out of date and irrelevant – we don’t agree.
- 1 – We have all been invited to be a part of God’s team; whether we accept the challenge is a personal choice. Jesus recruited all kinds of different people to be in his team of disciples and so it is today (Mark 1:16-20). You don’t have to be perfect to come to church – that’s why we…
- 2 – …train. Every top team spends hours and hours training. So it is as Christians (1 Timothy 4:7-8). We all come into church every week with worries, imperfections, relationship issues etc. Training to be closer to God through reading the Bible, singing Worship songs as a group, and praying is really important. And the main thing is, we don’t have to do it alone. Being part of a church gives you a sense of community and the opportunity to learn from each other, all under the guidance of the world’s greatest…
- 3 – …coach. God, as our coach, sees the big picture. As soon as you accept that you’re not in charge and that God has a plan for you, things that happen to you and those around you, start to make a bit more sense (Jeremiah 29:10-13). Just like the coach of a football team sits back and takes in everything that’s going on, rather than just the small detail, God has a bigger plan for each of us. And to help us on our way, He’s given each of us a…
- 4 – …specific role on the team. If a football team had 11 goalkeepers, the game wouldn’t be very exciting would it!? So, God, in His wisdom, has given each of us specific skills that we’re good at (Romans 12:4-5). Don’t be disappointed if you’re not like someone else – you are you, and that’s who God has designed you to be. Play your part in the team by doing what you’re good at to the best of your ability.
If you’ve not been into a church for a long time (maybe never!), then come and join us soon and find out more about how you are called to play your part in God’s team.
